We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Genetic Counselling Assistant to join our team at BC Cancer. As a key member of our Hereditary Cancer Program, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinicians and patients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform baseline review and triage of patient referrals, determining eligibility and prioritizing cases according to established guidelines.
- Obtain and document patient information, including medical history, family history, and associated medical documentation.
- Prepare and maintain patient charts and testing materials, including paperwork and kits.
- Draft consultation and results letters using established guidelines and approved templates.
- Enter patient information into our computerized information system and prepare patient documentation for filing.
- Communicate with patients and healthcare providers, answering general questions and triaging inquiries to our clinicians.
- Refer patients to other services or specialists as directed by our clinicians.
- Diploma in a related health science or social science discipline, plus two years of recent related experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to deal with others effectively and organize work.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
