Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled High Voltage Electrical Specialist to join our team at Spark Power. As a key member of our electrical services team, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical Equipment Installation and Maintenance: Install and maintain electrical equipment and apparatus in generator unit stations, sub-stations, collector stations, and/or powerhouses.
  • Electrical System Design and Planning: Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and manufacturer specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations.
  • Electrical Power Distribution: Install and maintain electrical power distribution equipment such as transformers, generators, voltage regulators, switches, circuit breakers, capacitors, inductors, above/below ground conduit, ground grid, structural steel, and fabricate control panels, brackets, and hangers.
  • Electrical System Testing and Troubleshooting: Inspect and test installed electrical equipment and apparatus to locate electrical faults and check their operation, using volt meters, ammeters, and other electrical test instruments and equipment.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere to all company and client health and safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Ensure all electrical installations follow applicable client standards and trade practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Complete maintenance reports, QA/QC, and ensure paperwork is completed timely and legibly.
  • Material Procurement: Scope and order material for projects and daily work requirements.
  • Travel and Remote Work: Travel to remote locations and work at heights outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Fault Isolation and Repair: Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical and electronic systems and remove and replace faulty components.
  • Electrical Control and Distribution: Install, replace, and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
  • System Compatibility and Safety: Test continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, and if need be, replacing or repair following proper installation guidelines.
  • Culture and Inclusion: Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Journeyman Electrician and industry-related safety certification.
  • Experience: Experience in industrial electrical construction and maintenance.
  • Skills and Abilities: Professional and respectful attitude with a strong customer service focus, exceptional organizational skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and written, ability to work independently and cohesively within groups, capable of working at various heights, with the ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge and Qualifications: Knowledge to interpret Canadian electrical code and Alberta Utility Code with a high level of mathematical aptitude.
  • Travel and Work Requirements: Willingness to travel, work in remote job locations, and perform shift work.
