Position Overview

The Traffic Engineering division is dedicated to ensuring the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of provincial airport and marine facilities and services in Manitoba. Our mission is supported by a workforce that is innovative, committed, and compassionate.

Employment Conditions:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Willingness to travel across Manitoba for extended periods, utilizing air, water, or winter road travel, and staying in remote areas where self-catering may be necessary.
  • Possession of a Manitoba or Interprovincial Red Seal journeyman electrician's H, HI, or HC license is required.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions in Manitoba, utilize Personal Protective Equipment, and perform tasks on elevated platforms and in confined spaces, sometimes independently.
  • Must hold and maintain a class 5 driver's license, with a commitment to upgrade to a class 3 driver's license with airbrake endorsement within the first year of employment.
  • Capability to work with High Voltage equipment and perform physical tasks including bending, crouching, kneeling, and lifting weights up to 75 lbs.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Experience in electrical construction, including the installation of various voltage electrical services and equipment.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting electrical circuits.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and plans related to electrical and electronic circuitry.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other relevant software applications.
  • Skills in identifying, controlling, and managing hazards and risks.
  • Analytical skills to identify and resolve problems independently based on information gathered from site inspections, relevant laws, and technical guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Competent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of CSA Standard Z concerning electrical safety.
  • Experience with navigational aids.

Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the Airports Navigational Aids Supervisor, the Senior Airport Signals Technician is tasked with the installation, testing, and maintenance of runway lighting and navigational devices, as well as electrical systems on ferry vessels and associated sites. This role includes supervising an Airport Signals Technician and collaborating closely with contractors to ensure compliance with contract specifications and requirements.
