Job Summary

This is a supply, on-call position with the Durham District School Board. The successful candidate will work as a custodian, performing various duties to maintain the cleanliness and organization of the school facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Maintenance
    • Clean assigned areas, including washrooms, showers, and change rooms, as well as halls and stairs.
    • Perform floor maintenance, including stripping, washing, and sealing floors.
    • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance
    • Operate and maintain various cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, wet and dry mops, and buffers.
    • Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including replacing light bulbs and fixing plumbing fixtures.
  • Seasonal and Periodic Duties
    • Perform seasonal tasks, such as cleaning and preparing the school facility for summer and winter.
    • Assist with yard work, including mowing the lawn and trimming trees and shrubs.
  • Support and Collaboration
    • Assist the lead custodian/group leader, principal, and teaching staff as needed.
    • Monitor after-hours users of the school facility and report any issues or concerns to the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Education and Training
    • Grade 12 diploma
    • 6-12 months of training
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies
Work Environment

This is an afternoon shift position, working from approximately 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday to Friday during the school year. During holidays and summer clean-up, there may be alternate work hours.
