Job Title: Apprentice - Mechanical Design Engineer

This role is part of our team at T-Net British Columbia, supporting our capital project, emergency replacement, and restoration work, as well as asset management strategic OMA work programs and Owners Engineer review work.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV, as well as experience working with utility design solutions in an electric utility environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with our project and Engineering Design Practices.
  • Develop design work packages, including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
  • Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and company design practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
  • Create designs, drawings, specifications, and maintenance standards for our substation mechanical systems.
  • Create designs, drawings, specifications, and maintenance standards for our Telecom mechanical systems.
  • Other miscellaneous mechanical systems as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • 8+ years of related experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers.
  • Ability to manage design tasks, including scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensus.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently, including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in project management, including estimating, cost control, and project administration.

This role requires regular or occasional attendance at our workplace(s) and will be subject to our Contractor Vaccination Policy, which requires all contractor resources to be fully vaccinated by January 10, 2022 or prior to the work assignment start date, whichever date is later.

Term: 1-year initial contract with expected extension based on workload and performance.
