OverviewThe Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is seeking a dedicated professional to foster collaboration and strategic planning within the Indigenous community. This role is essential in enhancing existing partnerships and forging new connections with healthcare institutions, community organizations, and provincial entities regarding Indigenous health and wellness.
As a recognized Health Access Centre, Wabano delivers comprehensive primary healthcare services to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis populations in Ottawa, a rapidly growing and diverse urban Indigenous community. Our organization embodies Indigenous principles of balance, respect, and community interdependence while providing client-centered services.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe Indigenous Engagement Specialist will:
- Lead community engagement initiatives, planning, and executing activities that foster positive relationships with Indigenous peoples;
- Offer expertise on Indigenous health needs and service issues to stakeholders and partners;
- Develop processes to ensure Indigenous perspectives are integrated into health system planning and decision-making;
- Oversee priorities, projects, and budget management for Indigenous health initiatives;
- Identify and address emerging issues within the Indigenous community in collaboration with the Executive Director;
- Represent the Centre at community events and maintain documentation of outcomes;
- Assist the Executive Director in highlighting priorities and providing relevant information on Indigenous health matters;
- Contribute to planning committees to ensure Indigenous viewpoints are reflected in service development;
- Build and maintain inter-agency partnerships;
- Collaborate with diverse teams to support the Centre's strategic goals;
- Prepare reports on community engagement strategies and health service plans;
- Manage communications related to Indigenous engagement;
- Work closely with the Executive Director to develop budget proposals for Indigenous health initiatives;
- Perform other administrative duties as needed.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills in English (oral and written; proficiency in French is an asset) and will have:
- A post-secondary degree in health, social sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience; a Master's degree is preferred;
- Proven experience in community engagement and project management;
- Critical thinking skills to identify health system challenges and propose effective solutions;
- Experience in building partnerships with Indigenous and Non-Indigenous organizations;
- Strong interpersonal skills and situational awareness, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities;
- A successful track record of working with Indigenous communities to achieve positive outcomes;
- Exceptional judgment, problem-solving, and teamwork skills;
- Willingness to travel for meetings as required;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including mornings and evenings.
