About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team at Fraser Health. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing direct and indirect rehabilitation services to adults with serious and persistent mental illness.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assessment and Intervention: Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' functional capacity, occupational performance status, and environmental supports using recognized occupational therapy and psychosocial rehabilitation tools.
  2. Rehabilitation Planning: Develop, implement, evaluate, and document individualized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with clients, their support systems, and interdisciplinary team members.
  3. Direct Intervention: Provide direct individual and group interventions to support clients in achieving their goals.
  4. Consultation and Referral: Provide consultation, referral, and linking support to facilitate clients' effective entry and participation in life skills, education, employment, and leisure programs.
  5. Team Collaboration: Participate in interdisciplinary activities, such as client conferences and team meetings, to ensure comprehensive care.
  6. Community Liaison: Act as a consultant/resource to community agencies providing rehabilitation services to support the delivery of effective rehabilitation services.
  7. Program Monitoring and Evaluation: Assist in monitoring and evaluating programs to identify strengths and recommendations for improvements.
  8. Education and Training: Provide in-service education to service providers and assist in developing training workshops to meet identified training needs.
  9. Student Education: Participate in student education by providing guidance and supervision to occupational therapy students, rehabilitation assistant students, and/or work experience students.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited University.
  • Two years' recent experience working with psychiatric clients in an acute or community psychiatric setting.
  • Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
  • Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists - British Columbia (CAOT - BC).
  • A valid B.C. Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business use.
Skills and Abilities

You will possess:

  • A working knowledge of current psychiatric (psychosocial) rehabilitation and recovery practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the major categories of mental illness and their appropriate treatments.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize the analysis and application of activities related to occupational performance.
  • Ability to utilize outcome measurement tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment in a community setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, and other members of the health care team and community agencies.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as well as independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to problem-solve and exercise sound judgment in professional practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
