Key Responsibilities:
The Infusion/Injection Nurse plays a critical role in delivering specialized infusion and injection therapies to patients with oncology, autoimmune, and rare diseases in outpatient clinics or homecare environments. Effective communication and coordination are vital in ensuring comprehensive support for patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
Primary Duties Include:
- Administering medications via intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) routes.
- Monitoring and supporting IV infusion treatments within clinical settings.
- Documenting and reporting on post-injection and infusion activities in accordance with established protocols.
- Providing educational resources to patients, either individually or in group settings.
- Ensuring consistent availability to accommodate patient scheduling needs efficiently.
- Coordinating with patients, case managers, physicians, and other departments to ensure timely appointments and treatments.
- Conducting administrative tasks such as clinic audits and supply management.
- Participating in regular consultations and training sessions with management to maintain professional standards.
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals regarding product-specific educational programs.
- Adhering to nursing standards as set by regulatory bodies and company policies.
- Performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
Experience and Educational Background:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Registered Practical Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- At least 5 years of experience in administering IM/SC injections.
- 5 years of experience with IV therapy, with or without IV initiation, is advantageous.
- A diploma or degree in nursing or a related field.
- Valid provincial nursing license from the College of Nurses in the province of employment.
- Current CPR certification for healthcare providers.
- Experience in critical care, emergency, or homecare settings is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service when interacting with patients and healthcare teams.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Access to a home computer with internet connectivity, printer, and fax capabilities.
- Flexibility to accommodate pre-scheduled and last-minute patient appointments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to travel within designated geographical areas.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
