Regional Power Distribution Manager

Position Overview
The Regional Power Distribution Manager will oversee the implementation of electrical services for designated venues, including requirements for external production teams operating under exclusive power distribution contracts. This role entails planning, scheduling, and supervising technicians specializing in power distribution. The Regional Manager serves as the authority on Encore Canada’s power distribution standard operating procedures. A critical aspect of this position is to maintain a safe environment across all Power Distribution sites, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and Encore safety protocols. Collaboration with regional and venue leadership is essential to support both sales and operational functions. This position reports to the Regional Vice President or the Regional Director and collaborates with the global Power Distribution team.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Development
- Assess development needs and facilitate training for team members. Aid in setting and tracking career and performance objectives.
- Recruit, hire, and manage dedicated power distribution personnel at assigned venues. Collaborate with venue leaders to oversee cross-trained staff.
- Manage performance, inspire, and, when necessary, implement progressive discipline for staff.
- Delegate projects based on existing relationships, expertise, and team dynamics.
- Work with venue and regional leadership to ensure all personnel providing power distribution services are adequately trained and possess the necessary skills to execute power distribution in accordance with Encore standards.
- Support local, regional, and national training initiatives related to power distribution.
Safety Compliance
- Conduct field assessments to ensure power safety compliance within the assigned region.
- Assist with regular inspections of new and existing facilities and evaluate the safety of current power distribution systems. Collaborate with venue and regional leaders to recommend improvements or modifications as needed.
- Assume the role of Designated Master Electrician for Encore’s licensing requirements. Manage permits for electrical work where applicable.
Labour and Equipment Management
- Collaborate with venue and regional leadership to create and maintain work schedules, fostering a positive employee relations environment.
- Develop and implement power distribution load-in/load-out strategies for trade shows and production events. Assist in planning power distribution for smaller core AV meetings managed by venue leaders.
- Supervise the setup and teardown of necessary power distribution for various events, including general sessions, breakout sessions, and entertainment functions, while providing assistance in creating custom cables and electrical components as required.
- Troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Partner with venue and regional leaders to manage power distribution inventory and oversee equipment rentals and subcontracted labor.
- Review and assist in the creation of exhibitor order forms and electrical diagrams, determining labor and material requirements for upcoming events.
Customer Relations
- Exhibit strong customer service skills to maintain positive relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop strategies to influence potential clients.
- Provide support in preparing quotes as needed, either personally or through delegation.
- Interpret equipment and labor requirements, assisting the sales team in specifying labor needs to ensure profitability.
- Effectively manage Encore employees and external electricians as necessary.
- Cross-train Encore staff and assist with standard audio-visual setups and takedowns when required.
Company Support
- Assist the Regional Vice President with site evaluations of new and existing facilities, focusing on the design, maintenance, and installation of power distribution systems.
- Collaborate with venue and regional leaders to create and market Encore-produced shows that comply with standard operating procedures and timelines.
- Provide on-site support as necessary to ensure strategic projects are completed on schedule and local expectations are met.
Job Qualifications
- 5-7 years of electrical experience.
- Master Electrician license.
- Certificate-level education.
- Electrical Knowledge Proficient understanding of 110v-600v, single and three-phase equipment, various connectors, power phases, amperages, and voltages. Familiarity with European to American power conversions, generators, transformers, and relevant tools.
- Lift certification and operational experience.
- Broad knowledge of the trade show and production sectors.
- Required customer service experience with both internal and external clients.
- At least 1 year of experience in an instructional capacity.
- Ability to develop and implement training programs and safety procedures.
- Establish ongoing maintenance and continuous education initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and CAD software such as Vectorworks or AutoCAD.
- Willingness to work extended hours, flexible shifts, and availability for on-call duties.
