About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Family Newborn Care Unit team at IWK Health Centre. As a key member of our interdisciplinary care team, you will provide holistic, comprehensive evidenced-based care to meet the needs of individuals, families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient/family care to promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, injury, and disability.
  • Collaborate with patients and families, other nurses, and health team members to provide comprehensive care throughout all stages of health and complexities of illness.
  • Build professional relationships with other nurses and health team members to support the work of a strong interprofessional team and provision of quality patient/family care.
  • Ensure the goals and needs of patients and families are prioritized and individualized, using nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
  • Engage in independent, interdependent, and dependent functions to provide healthcare focusing on comprehensive assessment, patient/family education, and coordination of care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required (candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered).
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
  • Current experience in mother-baby nursing preferred.
  • Successful candidates are expected to orientate to all duties within FNCU (Post Partum, Follow-Up Clinic, Team Lead).
  • NRP Certification an asset.
  • IBCLC considered an asset.
  • Sound understanding of, and commitment to family-centred maternity care and mother-baby nursing required.
  • Competency in other languages considered an asset.
