Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Indigenous Health Systems Specialist to join our team. As a key member of the Indigenous Health Division – Indigenous Health Policy and Planning Branch, you will provide leadership and strategic advice on all work impacting Indigenous peoples' health, particularly the Indigenous MAPS initiative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and support strategic projects and initiatives associated with the Indigenous MAPS initiative to improve health outcomes for Indigenous peoples.
  • Conduct analysis to identify and develop proposals, briefing notes, and provide strategic advice to address trends impacting Indigenous peoples' access to primary health care services.
  • Support larger policy development teams, including collaboration and coordination responsibilities.
  • Undertake project management responsibilities and lead implementation on complex projects.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must:

  • Hold a university degree in a related field (e.g. Health, Public, or Business Administration, Indigenous Relations, Political Science) or equivalent experience.
  • Have a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience (or 10 years with no formal education).
  • Have a minimum of 5 years working with Indigenous peoples.

Experience with:

  • Strategic planning, policy development, and/or working through the legislative process.
  • Applying federal and provincial legislation and policies impacting Indigenous peoples.
  • In-depth knowledge of health system priorities and primary care delivery.

Assets:

  • Experience working in a First Nation, Métis, or Inuit community organization.
  • Experience within legislation that governs Indigenous health.

This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
