Parks and Facilities Maintenance Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Parks and Facilities Maintenance professional to join our team at Norfolk County. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our parks, facilities, and equipment to ensure they are safe and functional for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on parks, facilities, and equipment, including arenas, libraries, museums, cemeteries, community centers, and other municipal administration facilities.
  • Operate and maintain ice resurfacer, ice edger machines, and other specialized equipment.
  • Assist with the installation, removal, and daily maintenance of ice surfaces in arenas.
  • Perform cleaning and operations in recreation facilities, ice maintenance in arenas, and maintenance duties in parks and cemeteries.
  • Provide assistance with the operations of cemeteries, ensuring compliance with municipal and/or provincial policies, procedures, and by-laws.
  • Complete initial grave site/foundation/niche preparation and perform final gravesite activities upon service completion.
  • Operate and maneuver backhoes into site and dig grave spaces to established standards within restricted space confines.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of Basic Arena Refrigeration course through Ontario Recreation Facilities Association or completion within 90 days of employment.
  • Technical skills in modern building maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Related training, knowledge, and understanding in arena refrigeration process, cemeteries, parks, pools, and forestry an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Willingness to work various hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Proven ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Good physical dexterity.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience operating equipment, trucks, tractors with attachments, and front-end loaders.
  • Experience operating power tools and hand tools.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department-specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word-processed documents.

Benefits:

This is a casual position with no guarantee of hours. The successful candidate will be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
