Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Manager of Nutrition & Food Services, the Cook I plays a vital role in the daily preparation, cooking, and serving of safe, high-quality, and nutritious meals to clients, including patients, residents, staff, and visitors. This position adheres to established standards, departmental policies, and government regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals in accordance with nutritional guidelines and safety standards.
- Exercise independent judgment in prioritizing tasks and determining appropriate cooking methods.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with sanitary food handling principles.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal service delivery.
- Handle food items and cleaning supplies according to defined safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Certification from an accredited Cook Training Program.
- Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email applications.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets and modified food textures.
- Minimum of one year of experience in healthcare food service or institutional cooking.
- Ability to work efficiently, maintain attention to detail, and manage time effectively.
- Capacity to lift and handle items as required by the position.
- Commitment to respecting cultural diversity and confidentiality.
