Primary Purpose Of The Position
This role is essential for enhancing the efficiency of the plant workforce by maximizing employee capabilities and talents. The HR Specialist is responsible for assisting in the design and execution of strategies, systems, and programs that fulfill employees' needs for job security, engagement, recognition, and achievement while aligning with organizational goals. Acting as a trusted advisor, the HR Specialist will support managers in the consistent application of HR policies and collective agreements, fostering constructive relationships between employees and management through effective communication and resolution strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert consultation and advocate for team members as an HR representative within the plant's business units.
- Ensure the fair and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
- Conduct audits to verify compliance with provincial employment standards.
- Perform all duties in accordance with the Company's Code of Conduct.
- Facilitate the resolution of conflicts and issues.
- Engage with team members on the production floor to gather direct feedback.
- Deliver leadership with insightful feedback based on interactions within the production area while maintaining confidentiality.
- Support managers in their interactions with team members and ensure adherence to company policies.
- Develop and manage measurable objectives for the HR team.
- Assist in the creation and evaluation of HR systems within the plant.
- Formulate strategies for improvement in a collaborative, non-union setting.
- Actively promote plant optimization and continuous skill development.
- Be prepared to work flexible hours to support a 24/7 operational environment.
Education
A four-year degree is required.
Experience
0-5 years of experience in HR systems application or relevant education with co-op, part-time, or internship experience in HR.
Knowledge
- Understanding of both union and non-union environments, along with knowledge of Ontario Human Rights and Employment Standards Act legislation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HR functions and the overall organizational structure.
- Familiarity with in-plant policies, HR systems, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Solid research and analytical capabilities.
