Job Summary:
The Bus Monitor Substitute is a vital role within the San Angelo ISD transportation department. As a substitute bus monitor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and orderly transportation of students, while also providing assistance to students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the bus driver in maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the bus.
- Provide support to students with disabilities, including lifting and carrying them as needed.
- Supervise students as they board and leave the bus, and ensure that all students are accounted for at the end of the route.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other school staff to ensure a smooth and efficient transportation process.
- Work irregular hours as needed, including mornings, afternoons, and weekends.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment.
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
- Experience working with children preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and in bus or vehicle.
- Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, hot and cold temperatures, moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic chemicals.
- Frequent in-district travel and occasional statewide travel.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting/crouching, crawling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and reaching.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance.
