Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our cloud-based backend services. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of our platform and driving business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable and efficient backend services using cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and design, to drive product development and innovation.
  • Work closely with product managers to clarify requirements and develop designs for new features.
  • Implement, test, deploy, and monitor software for our cloud-based backend microservices.
  • Write and review clean, secure, and testable code with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and performance.
  • Develop and support cloud-based big data pipelines.
  • Use analytics to understand product behavior and inform data-driven decisions.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with junior engineers to foster a culture of growth and development.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of software development experience, with a strong background in backend engineering.
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Expertise in server-side software development in Golang (or other languages, e.g., Rust, C++, C#, Java, Python).
  • Strong understanding of database design and modeling (e.g., PostgreSQL).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
  • Experience with data-intensive applications, big data pipelines, and analytics, having used tools such as Snowflake, DataBricks, Amplitude, and Looker.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, ArgoCD.
  • Experience with Postgres, Redis, Kafka, Airflow.
  • Experience with Android development, Flutter, Kotlin.
  • Experience with Swift/SwiftUI.
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Experience integrating with Stripe, OneSignal.
  • Interest in the fitness industry.
What We Offer

Tonal Systems, Inc. offers a competitive salary, equity, and benefits package, as well as opportunities for career growth and professional development. Our engineering job track features five levels (Engineer, Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer, Senior Staff Engineer, and Principal Engineer) with competitive pay opportunities offered at each level. The base salary range for this position is between $116,000 to $160,000 CAD, depending on location and experience.
