About Paramedic Services
The Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services operates over a vast area of 9,221 square kilometers, responding to approximately 32,000 calls annually. Our team comprises Primary Care Paramedics, Advanced Care Paramedics, and Community Paramedics. We also have a Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) team that provides emergency medical assistance during tactical operations.
Our operational model includes central and reporting stations, with our headquarters situated in Azilda and additional posts in the Long Lake and Minnow Lake areas, along with other locations. Our fleet consists of ambulances, Paramedic Response Units, and a Remote Response Unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver primary emergency medical assistance while ensuring the safe and timely transportation of patients to and from medical facilities.
- Administer emergency medical care and controlled acts under the guidance of the Base Hospital Medical Director, adhering to the patient care standards and procedures established by the Ministry of Health and relevant regulations.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely in all weather conditions, following the Highway Traffic Act and departmental policies.
- Maintain communication with the Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC) regarding vehicle status, call assignments, and patient transportation.
- Complete all necessary patient and administrative documentation promptly as required by the Ambulance Act and departmental policies.
- Collaborate with CACC, families, base hospital staff, and other emergency services to gather pertinent patient information.
- Provide detailed patient reports to medical staff at receiving facilities.
- Inspect ambulances and equipment regularly to ensure they are operational and hygienic.
- Ensure vehicles are adequately stocked with necessary supplies and equipment at all times.
- Maintain safety and security of vehicles, stations, equipment, and controlled substances.
- Participate in mandatory training and continuing education programs as required.
- Assist in training activities related to Primary Life Support.
- Develop a thorough understanding of CGS's Safety Manual and applicable Provincial Legislation.
- Perform additional related duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a diploma in Emergency Care/Paramedicine from an accredited Community College in Ontario.
- EMCA or A-EMCA certification from the Ministry of Health (or pending certification).
- Certification as a Primary Care Paramedic in Ontario.
- Current CPR certification.
- Up to six months of relevant experience.
- Ability to exert significant physical effort in patient care.
- Strong knowledge of BLS Patient Care Standards and Base Hospital Policies.
- Effective communication skills for teamwork and decision-making in emergencies.
- Good map reading skills and local geographical knowledge.
- Advanced driving skills with adherence to traffic regulations.
- Professional use of the Restricted Radio Operator's license.
- Ability to work under pressure and make sound judgments in emergencies.
- Team-oriented approach to healthcare.
- Capability to assess patient needs and provide appropriate care.
- Familiarity with computer software and reporting systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and other services.
- Proficient in English; French language skills are an asset.
- Good health, attendance, and employment history.
- Current Criminal Records Check at the applicant's expense.
- Valid driver's license for operating an ambulance.
