Job Summary:

As a Heavy Duty Mechanic Intermodal Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our intermodal equipment and vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, service, and maintain intermodal cranes, terminal tractors, vehicles, and equipment, in accordance with federal and company regulations.
- Diagnose diesel/gas engine, electrical, hydraulic, driveline malfunctions and make required repairs.
- Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment, and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner.
- Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work irregular shifts, including evenings, midnights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime. Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, performing overhead work, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds (22 kg). Shop environment, ability to work inside shop and outside shop in all weather conditions. Must be able to work at heights up to 60 feet. Comply with safe work procedures and policies.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED).
- Diploma of Vocational Studies in Heavy Duty Mechanic.
- Diesel mechanic, Automotive, Truck & Coach, Hydraulics experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Technical knowledge of diesel mechanics.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Possess your own tools sufficient to perform repairs and service on small equipment. Tools specific to the railway are supplied by the company.
Assets:
- Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems.
- Commercial Transport or preferably Heavy Duty Working experience.
- Welding skills.
- Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory/safety environment.
- Post-secondary education.
- Basic computer skills.
Training:
Successful candidates will receive paid on-the-job training on new products and updates as required by the company, both theoretical and practical instructions. Depending on your level of experience, candidates must have completed 2nd year and registered with trade branch for 3rd year and will attend a series of courses at your work location in Canada or away from your work area for training purposes. Training will include intermodal equipment components, control systems, air brakes, start up, basic diesel electric systems, and CN maintenance regulations. Truck motors, data recorders, as well as fuel, oil, water, and air systems will also be covered. Successful completion of this program is essential for performance of future duties.
