About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanic II to join our Fleet Services team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our provincial road network.

Primary Accountabilities

Under the general supervision of the Fleet Service Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • Diagnosing equipment failure and performing repairs, rebuilds, and adjustments on a variety of government mobile machinery and equipment.
  • Assisting with field repairs as required and performing other related duties to complete equipment repairs, modifications, and/or preventative maintenance.
  • Working with specialized tools and equipment located at a government facility designed and equipped for mechanical work.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Provincial Certificate of Qualification in the Truck and Transport Trade.
  • Five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience.
  • A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with Air Brakes and an acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of computer controlled diagnostic technology and computer competency are considered assets.

Working Conditions

This role requires working in a mechanical repair environment, which may involve exposure to noise, smoke, and gas fumes. You will also be required to work in a field environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions. Considerable standing, lifting, carrying, and moving about is a requirement of this position.
