Your Opportunity:
As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) with Alberta Health Services, you will serve as a vital patient advocate, effectively engaging with community partners and allied healthcare professionals to ensure safe and proficient patient care and transportation. Your role will involve the safe operation of emergency vehicles and responding to medical and traumatic emergencies, as well as inter-facility transport requests, all while adhering to professional standards, medical control protocols, and established operating procedures.
Role Responsibilities:
In your capacity as a Paramedic, you will:
- Assess emergency scenes and patients, providing necessary transportation for ill or injured individuals from emergency sites or between healthcare facilities.
- Administer treatments, including medications, advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts, and electrical therapy.
- Lead the ALS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes.
- Ensure that ambulances and other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles are adequately stocked and equipped.
Alberta Health Services EMS requires proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation, which must be completed prior to application. Verification of results with Lifemark may occur to confirm successful completion of the test.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- Completion of an accredited Advanced Care Paramedic program.
- Active registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
- A valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence with no more than six (6) demerits.
- Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation within the specified timeframe.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Applicants not currently employed with Alberta Health Services must provide:
- A satisfactory Drivers Abstract with no more than six (6) demerits.
- A Criminal Record Vulnerable Sector check prior to commencing employment.
Successful candidates will collaborate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team, consulting with other healthcare providers as necessary. The role requires the ability to lift and move patients and equipment, with a flexible schedule that includes days, nights, and evenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred candidates will have:
- A minimum of six months of experience in EMS frontline operations.
- Demonstrated relevant experience as an AHS employee in Metro EMS, dedicated intra-facility transport, or Suburban/Rural EMS.
- Qualifications to perform full operational duties from the start date.
