Job Title: Building Inspector

The City of Courtenay is seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our Development Services Department. As a Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our community's buildings and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and properties to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Review and approve building plans and drawings to ensure they meet safety and building code standards.
  • Issue permits and licenses as required, and enforce compliance with regulations.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to the public and other City departments.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required.
Requirements:
  • Relevant post-secondary education.
  • Current BC Building Inspectors Level 2-3 Certificate.
  • Current BC Plumbing Inspector Level 1 Certificate.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Eligible for Building Officials Association of BC membership.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Considerable building and plumbing inspection experience for a local government.
  • Thorough knowledge of current BC building and plumbing codes, local government statutes, regulations, and bylaws.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Good office computer skills.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to check and interpret complex plans and specifications.
  • Physical ability to undertake frequent site inspections.
Additional Requirements:
  • Job-related safety training.

This is a regular, full-time position available immediately. The 2024 hourly wage rates range from $44.56 to $47.08 based on a 35-hour work week, Monday through Friday. The ideal candidate will have attained level 3 certification or a level 2 certified candidate close to completing their level 3 qualification.
