We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Area Manager to join our team at Wilfrid Laurier University. As a key member of our Facilities and Asset Management department, you will be responsible for the overall operation of the academic custodial division after hours on the Waterloo campus.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and train a team of custodians and lead hands to ensure high standards of work quality and organizational performance.
- Develop and implement effective cleaning methods and procedures to meet the approved standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports, including attendance records and training documentation.
- Collaborate with the Lead Hand to monitor and address health and safety issues, time sheets, and overtime.
- Work with the Associate Director to escalate disciplinary performance and attendance management matters related to the after-hours team.
- Provide customer service and support for planning and implementation of special events on campus.
- Develop and implement training programs to ensure ongoing training in WHMIS, health and safety, and other relevant areas.
- Minimum of two years of experience in custodial maintenance and supervision within a large, unionized environment.
- Demonstrated unionized supervisory and leadership experience.
- Excellent technical, presentation, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and CMMS Facilities Management system.
- Proven experience monitoring and adhering to a budget.
- Proven ability to supervise and train staff members, with a focus on developing their skills and knowledge.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others, including union representatives, to resolve conflicts and address issues.
- Flexibility in adapting to change and participating in consultative decision-making processes.
This is a full-time continuing role, working 35 hours per week, with a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of attention to detail and ability to multitask.
The position requires a strong commitment to health and safety, with a focus on preventing injuries and ensuring a safe working environment.
