Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and Treat Medical Conditions: Conduct thorough physical examinations and laboratory tests to diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds, and flocks.
- Provide Medical Treatment: Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, or performing surgery as needed.
- Preventative Care: Vaccinate animals to prevent and treat diseases, and advise clients on feeding, housing, behavior, breeding, hygiene, and general care of animals.
- Conduct Research: Participate in veterinary research related to areas such as animal nutrition, healthcare products development, and disease prevention and control.
- Perform Examinations: Conduct routine, emergency, and post-mortem examinations to diagnose and treat medical conditions.
- Provide a Range of Veterinary Services: Offer a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry, and euthanasia.
- Licensure: Hold licensure by provincial or territorial authorities.
- Physical Capabilities: Possess the ability to handle heavy loads, manual dexterity, attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Work Conditions: Be able to stand for extended periods, bend, crouch, kneel, and work in a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
