The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a pivotal role in leading and promoting excellence in pediatric, family-centered rehabilitation nursing care. The RN's expertise is rooted in rehabilitative principles, managing complex medical needs, collaborating with the interprofessional team, and partnering with clients and families to provide education and establish care plans aimed at maximizing independence and wellness.
The RN is registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and practices within the full scope of their legislative framework, demonstrating the ability to work across the continuum of care and on various units.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

Employs theoretical and evidence-based practices to assess, implement, and evaluate nursing care for clients across all inpatient units. Delivers nursing care that enhances the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being of clients and their families. Practices culturally sensitive care. Collaborates with clients, families, and the interprofessional team to facilitate timely and effective discharge and transition planning. Advocates for clients and families to achieve optimal outcomes and judicious use of resources. Engages with interdisciplinary care team members and community providers to ensure a cohesive approach to care. Respects and supports the rights of clients and families to make decisions based on their individual values and beliefs.

Collaboration

Works with clients, families, and the interprofessional team to establish client-centered goals. Exhibits excellent communication skills. Adheres to established standards of care within an interprofessional framework.

Leadership

Engages in quality improvement initiatives to ensure efficient and effective healthcare delivery. Participates in activities that promote a safe and healthy work environment. Utilizes the teaching and learning process to provide education to clients, families, colleagues, and students within an academic healthcare setting. Manages change constructively and appropriately. Seeks opportunities for professional development.

Research and Education

Demonstrates a spirit of inquiry by evaluating current practices and identifying areas for study. Applies nursing best practice guidelines in delivering care. Participates in nursing research as applicable and utilizes outcome measurement.

This role may involve rotation across various units, including the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team, Specialized Orthopedic & Developmental Rehabilitation, and Complex Continuing Care. Successful candidates will be expected to adapt to the needs of client care across these units.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or actively pursuing a nursing degree. Relevant job experience is required, with a preference for pediatric rehabilitation nursing experience. Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and interprofessional team members. Experience working with clients who are ventilator-dependent is an asset. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is mandatory. Membership in RNAO is preferred. Specialty Certification in Rehabilitation Nursing is an advantage.
