Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Eye Centre Aide to join our team at Fraser Health. As an Eye Centre Aide, you will play a critical role in supporting the surgical team by performing various duties related to the preparation and maintenance of surgical equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review OR slates and identify ophthalmology cases for the next day
  • Pick and distribute OR instrument sets, supplies, and equipment for ophthalmology cases according to established procedures
  • Assist with room setup by removing dirty case carts and replacing them with clean sterile case carts
  • Re-assemble supplies and instrument trays on sterile case carts
  • Maintain and restock sterile case carts
  • Transfer instrumentation to the Sterile Processing Department according to established procedures
  • Assist the surgical team in post-operative transport of patients from the operating room to the recovery room
  • Collect patient charts from pre-admission and deliver them to the anesthesia room
  • Document and maintain patient-specific information regarding eye implants in eye centre inventory control records
  • Monitor usage of medical/surgical supplies and instrumentation, including sutures, lens injectors, needles, packs, and water stock usage, and re-stock supplies according to established procedures
  • Restock linen carts for the eye centre by obtaining supplies from the surgical services linen cart
  • Locate equipment required by the unit and maintain storage areas
Qualifications

We require a Grade 12 education, successful completion of a Sterile Supply Processing course, and one year of recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

You must have a strong knowledge of surgical and medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others. You must also be physically able to carry out the duties of the position.
