Job Description

**About the Role**

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team at Toronto Hydro. As a key member of our Engineering department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the technical soundness, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness of our Electrical Distribution Power System.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Develop and maintain short and long-term distribution system load forecasts to ensure reliable and efficient supply of electricity.
  • Conduct technical analysis, including capacity assessments and cost estimates, to identify short and long-term distribution system requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with trends and technical innovations that result in potential business development opportunities.
  • Liaise with customers, planners, technical consultants, and internal stakeholders to support connection conversations and load forecasting.
  • Respond to technical requests and inquiries on Toronto Hydro's Conditions of Service, seeking support from other business units as necessary.
  • Translate customer requirements to internal stakeholders to provide an accurate description of customer needs to the organization.
  • Act as a reliable point of contact to address technical customer inquiries.
  • Provide informed support or leadership on strategic technical projects.
  • Contribute to short and long-term strategic planning.
  • Provide timely technical support and consultation for load forecasting, demonstrating effective project management and process efficiencies.
  • Review, develop, and/or present business proposals, plans, designs, processes, operational procedures, and practices.
  • Responsible for the timely, technically accurate, and cost-effective application of engineering practices.
  • Compare alternatives based on cost/benefit considerations, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis, and engineering principles, and recommend the optimum solution.
  • Manage relationships with inter-organizational business units and external customers as required.
  • May be called upon to act as a team or project leader.

**Requirements**

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred).
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • 4+ years of Engineering experience.
  • Experience within the electrical utility industry, electrical/technical consulting industry, is considered an asset.
  • Experience with statistical analytical techniques, data mining, predictive modeling, and machine learning is considered an asset.
  • Experience with database and programming languages (e.g., Python) and data manipulation/integration using SQL, Oracle, Hadoop, or similar tools would be considered an asset.
  • Electrical distribution system planning and/or design experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in Alteryx and Tableau are an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective skills in project management operations, budgeting, business process, and productivity improvements.
  • Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence, and can visualize possibilities and opportunities.
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing, and facilitating change, willing to challenge the status quo.
  • Proven effective problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Proven conflict resolution skills.
  • Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic work plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation and regulations.
