Position Overview:
Reporting to the Vice-President of Engineering and Operations, the Operations Manager will provide strategic leadership and assume comprehensive responsibility for the construction and maintenance of the overhead and underground distribution systems.
This role encompasses oversight of the electrical distribution system, including subdivision developments, planned capital projects, new services, and customer-driven initiatives, ensuring adherence to technical standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Operations Manager will support all departments in delivering electricity safely and effectively to all customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction Management:
- Oversee the construction of overhead and underground electrical distribution projects, collaborating with internal departments, municipalities, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Manage the construction of new installations, line relocations, and maintenance of existing systems, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations throughout all phases of utility operations.
- Conduct site inspections and safety meetings to maintain high standards of health and safety.
- Ensure that construction activities align with provincial regulations and corporate standards.
- Lead a team responsible for the planning and execution of construction and maintenance activities.
- Implement the Asset Management Program to maximize the lifespan of distribution assets.
- Supervise employees and contractors involved in the installation and maintenance of the distribution system.
Project Management:
- Deliver project management services to ensure timely completion of capital projects and asset management initiatives.
- Coordinate schedules and quality assurance for utility construction projects.
- Assist with tendering and contract management.
- Lead teams to explore innovative work methods and collaborate with stakeholders.
Leadership:
- Manage daily operations of the department, providing guidance and support to team members.
- Conduct performance management and development for direct reports.
- Administer human resource planning, including hiring and training staff.
- Oversee external consultants for specialized projects.
Facility and Equipment Oversight:
- Prepare reports on equipment needs and lifecycle costs.
- Ensure maintenance and replacement of fleet and equipment according to schedules.
- Manage facility maintenance and improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
General Management:
- Set departmental objectives and strategic plans.
- Oversee inventory and equipment management.
- Contribute to annual business plans and budgets.
- Implement policies and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Promote a safe work environment and assist with regulatory audits.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
