STO Building Group is seeking a skilled Mechanical Cost Estimator to enhance our operations. This role will focus on the development, creation, and preparation of construction cost estimates for Mechanical and Plumbing systems across a variety of projects in their initial phases. The Mechanical Estimator will continue to provide updated cost insights throughout the Pre-construction phase, managing multiple projects concurrently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze architectural plans and MEP drawings.
- Conduct quantity take-offs for designated projects.
- Perform thorough reviews of plans and drawings.
- Identify and account for any omitted items in the overall estimate package.
- Build and maintain productive relationships. Solicit subcontractor bids for projects valued between $50 million and $150 million annually.
- Gather 3-5 bids from each trade and supplier group.
- Evaluate and analyze bids for compliance with project specifications, pricing, material quality, insurance, wages, and other relevant factors.
- Engage with subcontractors to clarify and resolve any inquiries.
- Adhere to established estimating practices.
- Ensure comprehensive estimates are prepared, meeting financial targets.
- Stay informed on trends and changes in construction codes.
- Utilize relevant software tools for calculating, recording, and tracking estimates.
- Participate in client meetings, addressing questions and resolving pricing and estimate-related issues to ensure client satisfaction.
- Handle change order pricing, conduct site visits, deliver bids, and collaborate with teams on specific proposals.
- Assess material and labor needs, preparing detailed itemized lists. Calculate cost factors and prepare estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and evaluating cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct specialized studies to establish standard hours and related cost data or implement cost-saving measures. Consult with clients, vendors, or other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues, ensuring support and commitment to the cost estimates.
- Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and formalize processes to support cost estimating.
- Review completed projects to compare estimated costs with actual costs, identifying discrepancies and providing recommendations for improving cost estimating procedures to minimize future discrepancies. Recognize cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process enhancement efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in construction, management, engineering, or architecture is preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Estimating, Construction Engineering/Project Engineering, or related roles in general contractor estimating and purchasing.
- Open to candidates transitioning from field operations to the preconstruction division.
- Strong computer skills (MS Office/Excel) and well-developed budgeting, purchasing, and organizational abilities are essential.
- Demonstrates trustworthiness through honesty, accountability, and reliability.
