Part-time Lifeguard or Instructor

Job Summary: The City of Yellowknife is seeking responsible and enthusiastic individuals to assume part-time, casual positions as Lifeguards with the Community Services Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn and become proficient in safe and proper lifeguard techniques, with a focus on patron safety and customer service.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and pool supervision to all pool patrons.
  • Respond to incidents that occur in the facility and actively participate in mandatory in-service training events.
  • Carry out regular checks of the change room and general guard area.

Additional Responsibilities for Lifeguard/Instructor:

  • Learn and become proficient in safe and proper techniques in teaching swimming lessons (Lifesaving Society Standards).
  • Instruct and prepare aquatic lessons for children, youth, and adults.
  • Evaluate class participant performance and complete progress cards as applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Current National Lifeguard Award.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Ability to pass the Building Standards Exam.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Award.
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Award.
