Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Risk Management Specialist to join our team at Alterna Savings. As a key member of our Enterprise Risk Management department, you will play a critical role in managing the credit risk program for our commercial arm and ensuring the effective use of our resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Board and management policies for Commercial Credit, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to achieve a balanced approach in assessing and managing commercial credit risk, ensuring effective use of Alterna's resources.
  • Monitor lender compliance with policies and procedures through the Credit Assessment process, recommending actions to improve compliance levels as required.
  • Support the execution of the Enterprise Risk Management program, maintaining a high level of understanding of Alterna's business model and structure.
  • Assess and monitor risks and exposures against the Risk Appetite Framework and policies, generating reporting for Senior Management and Board Committees.
  • Conduct an annual review of commercial credit authorities, reviewing requests and providing recommendations to the Credit Risk Management Committee for granting, amending, and revoking authorities.
  • Develop and evaluate policies to adhere to applicable regulatory requirements for Alterna Savings and Alterna Bank, as required by the Executive Leadership Team, Credit Risk Management Committee, or external regulators.
  • Monitor commercial credit portfolio risk indicators, trends, and migration, generating an outlook on expected losses and providing guidance in portfolio review and strategy, as required.
Requirements
  • University Degree in a business-related field with relevant work experience.
  • Professional designation or advanced study is a definite asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of risk analysis and commercial credit granting experience at a senior level.
  • 5 – 10 years of progressive business and management responsibilities.
