Crisis Response Registered Nurse

At Homewood Health, we are dedicated to making a significant impact in the field of mental health care. As a Registered Nurse within our Emergency Mental Health & Addiction Services (EMHAS)/Trillium Acute Care Unit, you will collaborate with a dynamic, interdisciplinary team committed to providing exceptional care to our clients.
Your Role:
- Deliver patient care utilizing a crisis intervention model with a comprehensive bio-psychosocial approach in a secure setting.
- Effectively manage crisis situations within an Emergency Department context.
- Provide care for patients experiencing psychiatric crises requiring short-term admissions in the Intensive Care Unit and Assessment and Stabilization program.
- Assume leadership responsibilities as a Charge Nurse when assigned, guiding the work of team members.
- Adapt to the varying needs of patient care in accordance with CNO standards and RNAO Best Practice Guidelines.
- Implement nursing care plans developed by the primary nurse for each patient.
- Administer both psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions.
- Assess and mitigate suicide risks while managing aggressive behaviors using non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
- Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual members as necessary.
- Serve as a mentor, preceptor, or resource nurse as appropriate.
- Maintain precise and timely documentation and reporting.
- Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences.
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with the CNO in good standing.
- CPMHN (C) certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with diverse psychiatric diagnoses is preferred.
- At least 2 years of recent experience in Emergency Mental Health, Acute Assessment, or Community Crisis settings.
- Preferred experience of 1 year in a Charge Nurse role.
- Familiarity with the Mental Health Act and community mental health resources.
- Current CPR/Basic Rescuer certification.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Experience in group facilitation.
- Strong clinical judgment based on best practices and patient-centered care.
- Understanding of the Mental Status Exam and crisis management.
- Knowledge of CBT/DBT is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a respectful communication style towards patients, families, and colleagues.
