ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Accounting & Finance division at Black & McDonald is expanding. We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative professional eager to contribute to a dynamic and innovative team.
The Payroll Specialist position is situated in Markham, Ontario, offering a blend of remote work and in-office responsibilities, and typically reports to the Payroll Manager. The primary focus of this role is to manage tasks and responsibilities associated with processing hourly unionized payroll under the guidance of the Payroll Manager. Key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with unions, interpreting and updating wage schedules, burden tables, and conducting monthly union reconciliations.
- Ensuring accurate and timely end-to-end payroll processing and payments via direct deposit, including onboarding new employees and managing terminations with Record of Employment (ROE) submissions.
- Addressing payroll inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual returns for provincial items such as WSIB/WCB and EHT.
- Conducting annual preparation of T4, RL1, and T2200 forms.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of the PCP designation with NPI.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Payroll.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and understanding of:
- Proven ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in unionized construction is an asset.
- Familiarity with JD Edwards or ERP systems is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel – including vlookup, pivot tables, etc.).
