Department: Curriculum and Learning

Reports To: Coordinator of Clinical Services

Union Status: EAPT

Location: Administration Office

Hours: 15 hours/week (0.5 FTE) - 10 months (school year position; schedule TBD)

Hourly Salary Range: as per the EAPT Collective Agreement

Purpose of Position

The Audiometric Technician is responsible for conducting hearing screenings and evaluations for school-age students, identifying those who may need referrals to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing necessary documentation in accordance with the hearing screening process.
  • Performing basic hearing screenings for kindergarten, grade one, and any new or newcomer students under the guidance of Speech-Language Pathologists.
  • Reviewing findings collaboratively with Speech-Language Pathologists.
  • Screening students from early years through senior years as identified by school teams.
  • Ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of screening equipment.
  • Assisting in the implementation of Soundfield systems in schools, including training teachers on their use and maintenance.
  • Carrying out additional tasks as assigned to support the effective operation of the Department.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Completion of Grade 12 education or GED, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Ability to adapt testing methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Capacity to work professionally and collaboratively across various locations with all Pembina Trails Staff.
  • Experience engaging with culturally diverse populations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Desired Skills and Knowledge:

  • Possession of a Manitoba Industrial Audiometric Technical Certificate or enrollment in a related program.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
