Purpose of Position
The Audiometric Technician is responsible for conducting hearing screenings and evaluations for school-age students, identifying those who may need referrals to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Completing necessary documentation in accordance with the hearing screening process.
- Performing basic hearing screenings for kindergarten, grade one, and any new or newcomer students under the guidance of Speech-Language Pathologists.
- Reviewing findings collaboratively with Speech-Language Pathologists.
- Screening students from early years through senior years as identified by school teams.
- Ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of screening equipment.
- Assisting in the implementation of Soundfield systems in schools, including training teachers on their use and maintenance.
- Carrying out additional tasks as assigned to support the effective operation of the Department.
Skills and Qualifications
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Completion of Grade 12 education or GED, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Ability to adapt testing methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Capacity to work professionally and collaboratively across various locations with all Pembina Trails Staff.
- Experience engaging with culturally diverse populations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Desired Skills and Knowledge:
- Possession of a Manitoba Industrial Audiometric Technical Certificate or enrollment in a related program.
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
