About the Role

MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Commodity Manager to join our Supply Chain team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing the parts acquisition process for multiple projects, coordinating supply chain activities, and negotiating cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage the procurement process for multiple projects, from concept design to production.
  2. Coordinate supply chain activities across multiple projects.
  3. Negotiate with suppliers to secure the most economical and cost-effective solutions.
  4. Lead the execution of contractual obligations with suppliers.
  5. Work with planners and buyers to provide accurate forecasts of new developments.
  6. Interface with suppliers on delivery schedules, costs, and contract inquiries.
  7. Ensure supplier adherence to operational contractual terms and conditions.
  8. Assist suppliers in achieving rate readiness for development and legacy programs.
  9. Facilitate and monitor cost reduction activities.
  10. Coordinate industrialization commitments on purchased parts, respecting costs and deadlines.
  11. Report on new development activities and cost reduction achievements.
  12. Manage design changes with suppliers to minimize costs and obsolescence issues.
  13. Develop a strategic approach to supply chain activities in support of multiple projects.
  14. Identify opportunities for consolidated spending activities to benefit the business.
  15. Proactively identify and resolve supply chain issues to meet business needs.
  16. Launch RFQ packages and negotiate prices, terms, and conditions with suppliers.

Requirements

  1. Understanding of engineering principles and ability to read technical drawings.
  2. Experience in estimating roles or purchasing/sourcing within a manufacturing environment.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals across various functions and seniority levels.
  4. Ability to work with minimum supervision within multifunctional teams.
  5. Problem-solving skills and ability to implement actions based on findings and root causes.
  6. Commercial awareness and ability to understand, challenge, and implement contract conditions.
  7. Good understanding of ERP systems (SAP/Syspro) and Office 365.
  8. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  9. Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks to achieve a common goal.
  10. Ability to influence individuals outside of the function to achieve business goals.
  11. Hardworking, honest, conscientious, polite, and cooperative attitude.
  12. Goal-driven and focused individual.
  13. Quick to learn new tasks and take on new responsibilities.
  14. Fluency in French, Japanese, or Spanish is an asset.

Education and Experience

  1. Degree in Finance, Sales, Engineering, or related discipline is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
  2. 5+ years of experience in purchasing/sourcing within a manufacturing environment, with a background in engineering being an asset.
  3. Experience in identifying and delivering cost reduction plans to benefit the business.
  4. Experience liaising with customers or suppliers.
  5. Experience in the aerospace industry is desirable, with awareness of low-volume sourcing being preferred.
  6. Experience influencing design to achieve cost reduction or improve manufacturability of components.
