Position Overview:


As a vital member of a multidisciplinary chronic disease management team specializing in bariatric and diabetes care, the Clinical Psychologist I is responsible for conducting psychological evaluations and assessments for individuals managing chronic health issues such as obesity and diabetes.

This role involves leading and collaborating on client assessments, therapeutic interventions, and structured group therapy sessions.

Utilizing an educational framework, the psychologist will share insights, address challenges, and develop personalized treatment strategies in partnership with the healthcare team.

The psychologist is tasked with applying evidence-based practices and critically assessing the psychological needs of clients to provide optimal support for those dealing with obesity.

As part of the inter-professional team, the psychologist is expected to uphold clinical and professional standards while coordinating activities with other healthcare professionals.

This position supports both the bariatric and diabetes clinics and may extend to other clients facing chronic health challenges.

Key Responsibilities:


- Conduct psychological assessments and provide counseling services.

- Collaborate with primary care providers and specialists.

- Maintain accountability for safe and competent care delivery.

- Advocate for patients and their families.

- Ensure quality management through data collection and adherence to policies.


In addition to a competitive salary, Alberta Health Services offers a Remote Retention Allowance, providing up to $3,000 annually, payable on an hourly basis for all hours worked at the base pay rate.


Job Duties:


As a Clinical Psychologist I, you will deliver a variety of standard psychology services to patients and their families, adhering to established standards and policies. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting psychological screenings and assessments.
  • Providing diagnoses, interventions, and rehabilitation services.
  • Engaging in prevention and health promotion activities.
  • Facilitating educational initiatives.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to plan and implement services that align with best practices and ethical standards.

Your role will also involve providing insights into psychological factors affecting treatment planning and outcomes, as well as consulting with community services.

Additional responsibilities may include supervising psychometrists and provisional psychologists, contributing to program and policy development, and participating in research initiatives.


Qualifications:


To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A Master's degree in Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Active or eligible registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare setting.

Experience working with diverse populations and specialized training in counseling for obesity is preferred. Strong assessment, organizational, and client care skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate findings effectively. Experience in leading group therapy and collaborating with an inter-professional team is also required.
