Job Summary

The Shelter and Respite Services Manager will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of programs and services aimed at building community, enhancing housing stability, and improving the quality of life for clients. This role will involve working closely with the Director, Shelter and Respite Services, to ensure the effective management of operational requirements, collaboration with other departments and programs, and the development of strategies to enhance current services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to build community and enhance housing stability.
    • Manage partnerships with support agencies to provide opportunities for tenants.
    • Liaise with TCHC, neighbourhood groups, and community members to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Staff Management and Development
    • Recruit and hire qualified staff, in collaboration with the People and Culture department.
    • Administer the collective agreement and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
    • Participate in planning and evaluating provided services and collecting data.
  • Program Delivery and Budget Management
    • Manage the Shelter and Respite Services Team to deliver quality services to applicants, tenants, and communities.
    • Ensure team compliance with relevant legislation, company policy, and procedures.
    • Manage the Shelter and Respite Services budget and expenditures for the assigned program site.
  • Partnership Development and Human Resources
    • Develop and implement partnerships with support agencies and other stakeholders.
    • Participate in Dixon Hall's Performance Development Program and support staff training and professional development.
    • Directly supervise staff assigned to the program site location and ensure effective management and supervision.
  • Organizational Effectiveness
    • Work collectively with the Management Team to identify community development goals, objectives, methods, and resources needed to achieve them.
    • Identify trends and gaps in service and ensure effective management and supervision of staff.
    • Chair or participate in committees and activities relating to the project as required.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Post-secondary degree in social sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 5 years' minimum experience in social services, preferably with people who have difficulty maintaining a stable tenancy.
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • Broad knowledge of social housing, services to people who are homeless, the social services system in Toronto, and relevant legislation.
    • Demonstrated experience in staff management and development.
    • Strong verbal and written English language communication skills; fluency in a second language will be considered an asset.
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to achieve results and desired outcomes.
    • Strong organizational and administrative ability, proficient in a variety of computer applications.
    • Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability.
    • Demonstrated capacity to operate under pressure.
    • Experience with community-based resources, quality improvement, and evaluation.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage and work collaboratively with stakeholders and personnel from diverse sectors.
