Reporting to the Retrofit Field Foreman, the Apprentice Field Pipefitter plays a crucial role in assisting with the fabrication and installation of process and utility piping systems that adhere to industry standards. This position involves mounting and aligning industrial machinery, vessels, and piping systems, as well as executing warranty repairs. The successful candidate will operate a field picker truck, maintaining a strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and customer satisfaction throughout their responsibilities. A keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work are essential to meet and exceed client expectations. The role requires the ability to travel and work extended shifts in the field, including long-distance driving.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork.
With a foundation built on integrity, the candidate will leverage their creativity and dedication to propel our organization forward. This position is based out of the Red Deer location.
Key Responsibilities
This role offers the right candidate a diverse daily work experience, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to Retrofit projects. We seek an individual with strong communication skills, coupled with solid technical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Your ability to ensure that project deliverables are accurate, complete, and timely while maintaining a customer-centric approach will be vital for success in this role.
- Interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings.
- Exhibit excellent technical, interpersonal, and communication skills, including strong active listening abilities and the capacity to ask insightful follow-up questions.
- Fit and install butt-weld and threaded pipe/spools according to specifications.
- Provide clamping and structural support for piping systems.
- Install pressure vessels and associated piping systems.
- Assist in the installation of new packages.
- Conduct pressure testing of systems for leaks using appropriate testing equipment.
- Operate hoisting and lifting devices, such as picker trucks and overhead cranes, to position machinery and components during installation and setup.
- Cultivate and maintain positive professional relationships with current and prospective clients.
- Willingness to travel and work extended shifts in the field.
Required Qualifications
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of tradespeople.
- Solid mechanical aptitude.
- Proven ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant field service experience.
- Certifications in WHMIS, TDG, and H2S Alive are advantageous.
- Valid driver's license with the ability and willingness to drive long distances.
