Job Overview

The Freight Quality Assurance Specialist plays a crucial role in guaranteeing that customer shipments adhere to the standards set by the American Association of Railroads (AAR). This position is essential for reviewing all customer Load Plan and Securement requests, contributing significantly to the safe functioning of the railway and minimizing freight claim expenses.

Main Responsibilities

Oversight of Damage Prevention and Claims Management

· Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for various functions and clients concerning damage prevention and load planning.

· Suggest enhancements to improve shipment quality initiatives and lower freight claim costs.

· Provide direct assistance in areas such as shipment quality, lading recovery, load planning, and claims management activities.

· Safeguard and recover lading after derailments and negotiate salvage agreements.

· Evaluate customer loading practices, deliver AAR training, and negotiate claim resolutions.

· Investigate recurring damage incidents at major claimant facilities and establish an audit process to ensure compliance with loading and securement standards.

· Maintain records on compliance with AAR quality review standards in compound operations.

· Recommend process improvements to meet customer quality requirements.

· Collaborate with Freight Claims staff for data compilation and analysis.

· Partner with Automotive Marketing to ensure adherence to ISO 9000 processes.

· Work with securement materials suppliers to develop solutions for customer damage challenges.

· Examine mishandling and high damage incidents across all commodities and assess load preparation for shipment.

· Collaborate with various merchandise Shippers and Receivers on lading damage and claims issues based on data provided for significant customer concerns.

· Engage with Shipment Quality, Freight Claims Group, and other carriers on issues involving multiple territories and lines.

· Investigate improper loading incidents and provide recommendations for corrective actions in accordance with CN tariffs.

Load Plan Management

· Oversee load plan creation and training to maximize the potential for damage-free transport for all clients.

· Liaise with customers to resolve complex lading challenges.

· Offer guidance to customers for testing new load plans in line with industry standards.

· Collaborate with customers and other railroads on best practices for special commodity loading as part of the AAR Technical Advisory Group (TAG).

Training

· Deliver training on load securement and lading to operations and external clients.

· Conduct audits of automotive compounds to ensure yard compliance.

· Provide CN contractors with insights on optimal loading practices.

Working Conditions

This role involves a mix of office and outdoor environments, subject to various weather conditions, with a standard workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be capable of walking long distances outdoors and climbing ladders. Minimal travel (10%) within Canada and the United States is required. The nature of the role necessitates the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage pressure effectively.

· A minimum of 5 years of experience in railroad claims and damage prevention.

Education/Certification/Designation
