Accounting Technician Job Description

Baker Tilly Canada Cooperative is a leading midsize accounting and advisory firm based in Vancouver and Toronto. We provide value-added audit, tax and advisory solutions that support local businesses.

We are looking for an experienced accounting technician to handle comprehensive bookkeeping and accounting tasks, with a focus on providing excellent client service and maintaining accurate financial records.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Bookkeeping and Accounting Tasks: Prepare monthly and quarterly bookkeeping assignments, including payables, receivables, bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Financial Record Management: Reconcile accounts, post journal entries, calculate fixed assets and depreciation, maintain general ledgers and financial statements.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial and accounting reports, year-end entries, forecasts, budgets, and statistical reports.
  • Payroll and Taxation: Prepare payroll calculations, including bonus and vacation calculations, taxable benefits, remittances, T4 and T4A reporting, and T3010 Registered Charity Information Return.
  • Financial Analysis: Review and analyze financial reports, account receivables, and account payables.
  • Financial Record Keeping: Maintain financial records, establish, and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems.

A successful candidate will have:

  • Accounting Diploma or Equivalent: Completion of an accounting diploma or equivalent.
  • Accounting Experience: At least 5 years of experience as an accounting technician.
  • Bookkeeping Experience: Bookkeeping experience with insurance brokers would be an asset.
  • Cloud Accounting Software: Highly proficient in cloud accounting software such as QuickBooks Online or Xero.
  • MS Office Suite: Highly proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • RIBO Reports: Working with RIBO reports would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to effectively interface with personnel at all levels.
  • Professional Manner: Professional and friendly manner.
  • Positive Attitude: Positive attitude and desire to help others.
  • Results-Oriented: Results-oriented with the ability to complete assignments on time and manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Excellent Judgment: Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills.
