Job Overview

The Residential Risk Assessment Specialist conducts evaluations of various properties on behalf of insurance firms, offering recommendations for loss prevention aimed at minimizing the frequency and severity of incidents related to fire, theft, and liability. In this role, you will assess both residential and commercial properties to identify potential risks.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage internal systems and take responsibility for inspection files
  • Arrange appointments with clients to conduct visual assessments of properties (approximately 10% of time)
  • Travel to properties to evaluate risk factors (approximately 50% of time)
  • During property tours, capture photographs, measure rooms and structures, and review features such as fire prevention systems and heating equipment
  • Engage with property owners to gather information about the property's history, identify risks, and address any inquiries they may have
  • Generate comprehensive reports utilizing internal systems that detail construction specifics, risk assessments, and replacement cost evaluations (approximately 40% of time)

Accountability to the District Manager:

  • Ensure reports are free from errors and omissions, providing accurate assessment details
  • Contribute to the overall revenue objectives of the team
  • Continuously enhance your expertise to evaluate more complex properties

Accountability to Property Owners:

  • Demonstrate professionalism and tact to ensure positive experiences
  • Regularly deliver value-added services within your area of expertise

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational background in insurance, construction, or engineering is advantageous for recognizing and identifying construction and equipment details (College diploma or bachelor's degree)
  • Familiarity with building codes, fire services, and construction maintenance is beneficial
  • Proficient computer skills, including database management, typing speed and accuracy, and word processing, are essential for efficient report creation
  • Effective communication skills for customer service and report writing
  • Previous experience as an underwriting assessor or in the insurance sector is preferred
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking both English and French is required or desired
