Job Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a vital member of our interdisciplinary team at Edgewood Health Network Inc, providing medical care, recovery therapies, and everyday care and support to clients in Detox and addictions residential treatment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care to clients, administer medications in accordance with organizational and pharmaceutical policies and procedures, and support the Nursing Team and Physician as directed.
- Perform clinical nursing assessments during the patient intake and discharge process as per facility policies and procedures.
- Gather medical/mental health/substance use history, collect urine for substance screening, HCG testing, or urinalysis, and administer breathalyzer tests.
- Provide nursing care and interventions, vital sign monitoring, and medication administration for patients during medically supervised detox processes as per facility protocols utilizing withdrawal assessment tools.
- Monitor and manage acute or chronic conditions, administer scheduled and PRN medications as per facility protocols to CORE Programming patients.
- Perform First Aid, respond to acute emergent situations, and administer emergency medications as required, such as epinephrine or naloxone, as per facility standing orders and protocols.
- Document nursing assessments, nursing care, behaviors, and related progress in the KIPU electronic medical record system.
- Communicate with the physician regarding acute medical concerns, medication orders, detox protocols, patient progress, medical services required, and discharge prescriptions.
- Collaborate with the Physician, Clinical Counselors, Aftercare and Admissions Coordinators, Support Staff, and the Administrative Team to maintain continuity of care.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as creating patient identification labels, updating/photocopying/printing forms or documents using Microsoft Office.
- Participate in quality assurance programs, assist in establishing and updating policy and procedures, and prepare reports as needed.
- Contribute to the general cleaning and sanitization of the patient lounge, Nursing office, bathroom, and medication administration area.
Requirements:
- Valid and Current LPN License with the College of Nurses of British Columbia.
- Trauma-informed training/experience is an asset.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally and in writing.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Level C.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
