Job Summary

Island Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Services Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional care to individuals affected by mental health and substance use issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide registration and certification services to patients, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with healthcare professionals, focusing on substance use and harm reduction strategies.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and provide counseling services to individuals and families affected by mental health and substance use issues.
  • Collaborate with community resources and healthcare providers to ensure seamless care coordination and support.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to promote effective care delivery.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research, best practices, and regulatory requirements in the field of mental health and substance use.
Requirements
  • Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant.
  • Post-basic education related to psychiatric nursing, substance use, harm reduction, and/or mental illness.
  • Two years of recent experience in a related field, with a strong understanding of mental health and substance use issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and care coordination.
  • Valid BC Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a community setting, providing detached/outreach services to at-risk populations.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal Health approaches, protocols, and cultural issues.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and the Child Protection legislation.
  • Knowledge of available programs, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering care in the community to persons with mental illnesses.
