Utility Accounting Intern

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Utility Accounting Intern to join our team at CAPREIT. As a key member of our Accounting team, you will be responsible for managing and validating utility data, processing utility bills, and generating monthly financial reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process utility bills and review batches for accuracy, ensuring payee, amount, cheque date, consumption, and charges are correct.
  • Validate property address, invoice amounts, and rate charges, and liaise with utility companies on late payment charges and billing issues.
  • Manage utility data, generate monthly utility files, and send them to our Utility consultant for assessment of required monthly accruals.
  • Work with our Property Accounting team on billing issues, assist in developing internal reporting, and correspond with the consultant on a monthly basis to resolve any issues.
  • Reconcile annual utility contracts and validate volumes for renewing utility contracts, where applicable.

Requirements:

  • In progress or completed College diploma or University degree in Accounting or Business.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a strong working knowledge of MS Excel.
  • SAP experience is an asset.
