Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Practical Nurse to join our Mental Health Nursing Resource Team at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. As a key member of our interprofessional healthcare team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to complex patient populations in our Adult, Forensic, and Child & Adolescent Mental Health units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide quality nursing care to patients with unpredictable outcomes, adhering to the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the philosophy of patient and family-centered care.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans, utilizing the Nursing Process and ongoing knowledge to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Identify and respond to abnormal or unexpected patient responses, taking appropriate action to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Manage multiple nursing interventions simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to ensure efficient and effective care delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong interprofessional relationships with colleagues, promoting effective communication and collaboration to achieve shared goals.
Requirements
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BCLS).
  • Recent knowledge of forensic mental health nursing in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge of current legislation related to the Criminal Code of Canada Part XX.1 Mental Disorder, the Mental Health Act, and the Health Care Consent Act.
  • Ability to use the Nursing Process in conjunction with ongoing knowledge to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Strong interprofessional and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification or recent continuing education in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing.
  • Knowledge of the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation or a similar recovery-based model of care.
