Position Overview

Role: Lithium Process Engineer

Job Summary

As a key member of our team, you will engage in the development and enhancement of innovative process technologies aimed at extracting, refining, and purifying lithium from micaceous granites. Your contributions will be vital in executing bench-scale trials and providing essential scientific data for our lithium project.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

  • Conducting bench-scale trials and experiments in our Metallurgical Laboratory and Pilot Plant, which encompasses sample collection, analysis, data gathering, and documentation.
  • Collaborating with design engineers and project stakeholders to define and mitigate risks associated with process technology, ensuring the delivery of lithium carbonate products to the market.
  • Ensuring the safe operation of laboratory equipment and contributing to capital requests for improvements.
  • Maintaining accurate records of trial and analytical data, along with technical reporting of bench-scale trial outcomes.
  • Possibly acting as the Person in Charge (PIC) of the Metallurgical Laboratory or specific sub-areas.
  • Performing basic maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinating sample collection for analytical assays, including proper labeling and shipping.
  • Ensuring the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, including updating COSHH records and participating in risk assessments.
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of QA/QC policies for sample collection, testing, and analysis.
  • Creating technical memoranda, progress reports, and sections for key project phases.
  • Executing sample preparation processes such as drying, filtration, and pulverizing.
Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in Chemistry or an Earth Science.
  • Experience in a process laboratory environment, with a solid understanding of inorganic chemical processes and lithium chemistry.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards, including COSHH regulations, with a preference for candidates holding a vocational health and safety qualification.
  • Familiarity with process design in mineral and chemical contexts.
