Role Overview
Under the guidance of the Chief Estimator, you will gain valuable experience in supporting and leading a range of project initiatives within our Nova Scotia operations. As a key member of the team, you will engage in practical work assignments that will enhance your career skills.
Responsibilities of the Estimating Student:
- Assist in the creation of tender documentation.
- Engage with trade contractors and suppliers for project support.
- Develop and compile unit pricing.
- Conduct and revise quantity take-offs.
- Maintain updated lists for requests for information.
- Acquire knowledge of trade scope definitions and local market dynamics.
- Understand various contractual terms and conditions.
- Pursuing a degree or diploma in civil engineering or architectural technology.
- Competence in performing quantity take-offs.
- Ability to execute unit pricing tasks.
- Proficient in reading blueprints.
- Enthusiasm for working within the construction sector.
- Familiarity with conceptual estimating principles.
- Understanding of different contract types, including Lump Sum, Design Build, Project Management, Construction Management, and Public/Private Partnership.
- Strong computer proficiency, particularly with spreadsheets and design software.
- Experience with MS Excel, Primavera, On-screen Takeoff, and Bluebeam is advantageous.
