Claims Litigation Counsel

Comcare (Australian Government) is seeking a skilled Counsel to join our Claims and Litigation Services team.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will provide legal advice and support to Comcare's claims decision-making function, working closely with the Senior Legal Adviser and claims managers. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing client-focused specialist legal and strategic advice to Comcare's function in making claims determinations accurately and quickly.
- Resolving problems and managing risk effectively, while managing workload in a manner consistent with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal Comcare procedures.
- Working under limited direction to perform their role and provide instructions to external Legal Service Providers representing Comcare in the management of common law asbestos-related claims and liabilities.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An undergraduate degree in law.
- Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory (three years or more post-admission experience is desirable).
