Position Overview:

As a key member of the leadership team, the Head of Culinary Services will report directly to the Executive Director and play a vital role in the operations of Tri-County Mennonite Homes.

This role is responsible for overseeing food and dining services across our comprehensive care facility dedicated to seniors.

The ideal candidate will effectively address the needs of the division while collaborating closely with the Leadership Team. With a proactive mindset, they will embody a culture of exceptional customer service and person-centered care.

They will enhance communication and build a supportive network for the Culinary Services staff, while also promoting systems aimed at improving quality outcomes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining safe business practices in accordance with company policies.

As part of the leadership framework, this role will involve participation in the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee and the Professional Advisory Committee to foster a collaborative environment focused on enhancement and adherence to Best Practices.

Your enthusiasm for cultivating trusted relationships to provide an enjoyable dining experience, along with your commitment to engaging a team of culinary professionals, will be essential in promoting the overall well-being and quality of life for our residents. Key responsibilities include:


• Achieving targets for Resident Satisfaction and Employee Engagement


• Delivering services with a focus on individualized nutritional plans for residents


• Ensuring consistency in our branded dining experience through ongoing monitoring and quality improvement while meeting food safety standards


• Recruiting and training a skilled team of culinary professionals


• Managing food and labor costs effectively


• Ensuring departmental policies and procedures comply with relevant legislation


• Developing and engaging a team of culinary staff to provide high-quality nutritional services in a unionized setting


• Overseeing the operational budget and vendor contracts

Qualifications:

  • Active membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM)
  • Exceptional client relationship management skills, with a strong commitment to service excellence
  • Proficient in conducting assessments and referrals for dietary needs
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant dietary experience, including one (1) year in a leadership role
  • A genuine passion for food and senior care
  • Ability to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational capabilities
  • Experience in financial analysis and budget management
  • Up-to-date knowledge of innovative trends in resident food delivery; familiarity with Meal Suite Program is advantageous
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop team members during periods of change
  • Experience in a Long Term Care environment and collaboration with Registered Dieticians on clinical matters
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiar with food service IT systems
  • Knowledge of Point Click Care and Point of Care systems is a plus
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment is preferred
  • Availability for after-hours on-call duties.
