Position Overview:

The Mid-Level Building Envelope Specialist plays a crucial role in the design and management of renovation and new construction initiatives, offering technical guidance to our team. The projects encompass a variety of sectors including multi-family housing, government facilities, educational institutions, and mixed-use commercial spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform field assessments, ensuring adherence to specifications and compliance with building regulations, while compiling detailed reports;
  • Develop reports, analyses, designs, plans, and specifications for modifications and renovations of structures;
  • Conduct thorough condition surveys through testing and evaluation of building envelope systems;
  • Create comprehensive construction documents, specifications, and terms of reference;
  • Manage and prioritize multiple small-scale projects from inception to completion under supervision;
  • Assist in the tendering process and provide Construction Administration Services;
  • Collaborate with clients, design consultants, and contractors to ensure project compliance with design documents, while maintaining timelines and budgets;
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to interpret engineering specifications and address design and field engineering challenges;
  • Guide junior team members in a cooperative work environment;
  • Possess a foundational understanding of related disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Structural engineering.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Applied Science, Engineering, or Architecture from an accredited institution; or a CET designation with relevant experience;
  • Professional Engineering Designation or eligibility to obtain one;
  • 4-8 years of experience in building science or building envelope restoration within a consulting or contracting framework;
  • Familiarity with building codes and standards;
  • Experience in concrete and masonry restoration, roofing, cladding, and building opening enhancements;
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license for site visits;
  • Willingness to work on-site and interact with contractors;
  • Comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces;
  • Prepared to travel for site visits that may require overnight stays.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong project management capabilities with the ability to collaborate with a design team on multiple concurrent projects;
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, including proficiency in technical writing;
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
  • Proficient in relevant software applications, with advanced skills in Word and Excel; AutoCAD experience is advantageous;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership experience are considered valuable assets;
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
