Job Summary
The Assistant Store Manager is a key member of the Farm Boy team, responsible for assisting the Store Manager in the day-to-day operation and management of the assigned store. This role requires a strong focus on customer service, team leadership, and operational excellence.
Main Responsibilities:
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to all employees, customers, and suppliers, ensuring a quality service approach to all interactions.
- Team Leadership: Work closely with the Store Manager, Department Managers, and Retail Specialists to execute strategies aimed at achieving financial results and operational excellence.
- Communication: Develop and maintain effective communication with the team, including one-on-one coaching, huddles, metrics, product knowledge, and corporate policies and procedures.
- Team Development: Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting employee growth, development, and recognition.
- Operational Excellence: Assist in implementing the health and safety program, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Community Involvement: Participate in community events and promote Farm Boy's community presence.
- Financial Management: Support the Store Manager in retail operations, including inventory management, ordering, item maintenance, quality and rotation, shrink, merchandising, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll.
- Security and Safety: Ensure the store is properly protected, and opening and closing procedures are conducted timely and appropriately.
- Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including store financial information, safe management, document maintenance, and retention.
Qualifications:
- Education: Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with an emphasis in business, plus 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible managerial experience in retail, preferably in the perishable food industry.
- Certifications: Successful completion of a Public Health Food Handler certification, Smart Serve plus Level A First Aid and Basic CPR certification, or the commitment to complete within 6 months.
- Skills: Good knowledge of retail industry, food products, and superior standards of quality; skilled at working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining priorities and a high level of performance; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
Work Environment:
- Physical Demands: Required to stand and walk for long periods of time during shift; required to lift, carry, or handle heavy objects.
- Adaptability: Required to adapt to temperature changes on occasion (working on the retail floor as well as in coolers and freezers).
